Safe, Trusting and Respectful Teams

Safe, Trusting and Respectful Teams

At Sodexo, safety is more than physical—it includes your mental and emotional wellbeing. That’s why we’re committed to Zero Harm, with equal focus on psychological safety. The START program helps us all create a workplace where people feel supported, included, and safe to be themselves.

We all play a role in shaping a respectful and safe workplace. That means speaking up, looking out for one another, and challenging behaviours that don’t align with our values. There’s no place for bullying, harassment, discrimination, or abuse—verbal, emotional, physical, or otherwise.

What are psychosocial hazards?

Psychosocial hazards are parts of the work environment that can negatively impact your mental health, emotional wellbeing, or social connection at work. These hazards are just as serious as physical safety risks—and they affect your ability to do your job well and feel safe.

Examples include:

  • Long hours, shift work and fatigue
  • High job demands or unclear expectations
  • Social isolation or lack of support
  • Bullying, harassment or discrimination
  • Exposure to violence or traumatic events

These issues are especially common in remote or FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) roles, where added pressure and distance from home can make it harder to cope.

What are we doing about it?

Clear policies and procedures for managing psychosocial risks: We ensure the right controls are in place with appropriate and accessible support for employees and leaders.

Clear Expectations
We have internal policies and systems in place to manage psychosocial risks and ensure every employee and leader knows their role and responsibility.

Empowering Leaders
Through START psychosocial training, ongoing leadership development, and our Just Culture framework, managers learn how to recognise, prevent and manage psychosocial risks.

Fostering Inclusion & Respect
We embrace diversity and celebrate individual strengths. A culture of listening, empathy and openness helps create strong, respectful teams.

Practical Tools for Self-Care
From wellness tips to confidential counselling, PeopleSense Employee Assistance Program (EAP) can support healthy ways to manage stress, build resilience and stay connected. Wellness program and activities on site are designed to support physical exercise, mindfulness, and social interaction.

Mental Health Awareness & First Aid
Our I Hear You initiative, key dates like RU OK? and mental health month and Mental Health First Aid training make it easier to talk about mental health, spot the signs of distress, and know where to go for help.

Upstander Culture – Call It In, Call It Out
Everyone has a part to play. If you see unsafe or disrespectful behaviour—speak up, offer support, or report it safely. Together, we can protect and strengthen our team culture. Raising a concern or complaint
