A new chapter with Rio Tinto

A new chapter with Rio Tinto

We’re proud to share that Sodexo has been awarded a new contract with Rio Tinto to continue delivering facilities management services in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. The seven-year agreement, with an option to extend for another three years, marks the next chapter in a partnership that has been built over more than a decade.

From 1 June 2026, we will continue supporting Rio Tinto’s operations across remote villages, operational sites, and residential houses.

Each night, over 10,000 people stay in these villages, with thousands more accommodated in Rio Tinto’s housing. Your work ensures they can rest, recharge, and feel at home, even while being away from family, friends, and loved ones.

That includes everything our teams do every year:

  • Preparing and serving 14 million meals
  • Maintaining 19,000 accommodation rooms across 25 remote villages and 5 towns
  • Managing 12000 flights carrying 620,000 passengers
  • Transporting over 3 million workers by our bus and light vehicle fleet across 10 million kilometres
  • Cleaning over 700,000 rooms
  • Over 2500 m2 of kitchen and dining facilities refurbished
  • And so much more!

Behind these numbers are our incredible teams, on the frontline and in our Regional Support Centres, working together to make it happen.

This milestone wasn’t achieved overnight. It’s the culmination of years of consistently delivering safe, high-quality service in one of the world’s most complex operating environments. The small, everyday actions done well have made all the difference.

Looking ahead

We’ve worked together to create a contract that brings more collaboration, innovation, and long-term benefits for our people, our client, and the communities we live and work.

Across kitchens, housekeeping, facilities maintenance, transport, and every other role on site, this is a win for everyone who helped build something truly meaningful.

We couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved and can’t wait to see what’s next!
