Types of Apprenticeships with Sodexo
- Q: What trade Apprenticeships are available?
A: Depending on Operational scope and pre-assessment application, Sodexo supports trade training in Commercial Cookery; Electrotechnology and Air-conditioning Refrigeration. Other trades may be available on request.
Applying for an Apprenticeship with Sodexo
- Q: Am I eligible to train in an Apprenticeship?
A: Australian Apprenticeship eligibility is dependent on Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency; Permanent employment of either full-time or part-time in a role supported by all facets of the on-the-job practical training, and under the supervision of a qualified experienced trade supervisor. Full eligibility is determined by the relevant State Training Authority on contract application, and advised by a representative of an Apprenticeship Support Network Provider during contract indenture.
- Q: How do I apply for an Apprenticeship with Sodexo?
A: Employees interested in an Apprenticeship with Sodexo are encouraged to talk with their Manager on upcoming vacancies. Once a vacancy is identified, Managers complete and submit Sodexo’s Pre-Assessment Application form, which determines eligibility of the employee; viability of the training on site; and relevant business approvals. If proceeding, Sodexo directly contacts the employee, their Manager and trade supervisor to advise on next steps.
- Q: How do I sign into an Apprenticeship?
A: Approved Apprentices are then referred to a representative of an Australian Apprenticeship Network Provider, to arrange a contract indenture together with a representative from Sodexo. Full instructions on the indenture sign up appointment are provided by Sodexo.
Training in an Apprenticeship with Sodexo
- Q: Am I required to attend a technical college for training?
A: Apprentices are required to attend off-the-job training as part of their training contract, as scheduled by the nominated training provider. Training schedules are determined based on enrolment date; prior training completed; year position on entry and enrolment availability. All details relating to off-the-job training are provided by Sodexo to the Apprentice, their Manager and/or Trade Supervisor throughout the training contract.
- Q: What are the employer and Apprentice’s obligations during an Apprenticeship?
A: Employer and Apprentice obligations are stipulated in the training contract, issued to all parties at time of indenture and contract approval. Obligations of employers are – but not limited to – providing a genuine job with a contract of employment long enough for the apprentice to complete their apprenticeship; providing adequate and competent supervision at all times; helping the apprentice gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to achieve the apprenticeship, and recording the apprentice’s attendance to on and off the job training. Apprentices obligations are – but not limited to – work toward achieving the competencies set out in training plan; follow the conditions set out in their employment contract; perform work as directed by their supervisor; follow all legal instructions and directives (e.g. dress codes, health and safety procedures) and attend off the job training when directed.
- Q: Do I need accommodation while attending off-the-job training?
A: Apprentices are required to arrange their own accommodation while attending off-the-job training. In cases where a regional based Apprentice must travel and be accommodated away from their residential address, Sodexo provides information on accommodation rebates.
- Q: How is my Apprenticeship completed?
A: Sodexo Apprenticeships are completed only when all on & off the job training is completed to the satisfaction of the technical college (eg Tafe), Sodexo’s nominated trade supervisor and with senior business approval. The completion process is initiated by Sodexo in consultation with all parties to the training contract.
Prior learning towards an Apprenticeship with Sodexo
- Q: Can I apply for Recognition of Prior Learning?
A: Recognition of Prior Learning ‘RPL’ is considered during application for Apprentices with relevant skills, experience and prior learning, in consultation with the technical college and Sodexo Management. Full details are provided on application on evidence of prior learning, provided by the Apprentice.
- Q: Can I complete a dual trade qualification?
A: Additional trades may be available on application, and involve a new Apprenticeship contract with the same nominal duration required of the new qualification. However, the duration may be shortened due to applicable credits of existing technical training, and practical skill level.
- Q: Can I complete an Apprenticeship earlier?
A: Australian Apprenticeships are competency based, meaning earlier completion may be available when both the on-and-off the job training components are completed with business approval.
Tools, Books and Tuition
- Q: Am I provided tools on the job?
A: Depending on the employment award and Operational site, Sodexo may either provide a tool kit to the Apprentice; provide a tool allowance and/or provide tools on the job. Apprentices also have access to the Australian Tools of the Trade Allowance, with information provided during contract indenture.
- Q: Do I purchase my own books and tuition?
A: Apprentices are reimbursed for all the fees charged by the Training Provider that are related to the training, and the cost of prescribed textbooks for your apprenticeship, except when your progress in the course is unsatisfactory
