GURL PWR in Action: Meet Kim Scott and discover her trailblazing journey at Sodexo
Many of us at Sodexo Australia didn’t begin where we are today. We started in different roles, with different goals, and at different times in our lives. Along the way, we chose to follow non-linear paths, act with courage, break barriers, and inspire those around us. We are the Trailblazers.
For Kim Scott, it was about finding a place where she could combine her passion for people with her authentic self. Her story is a great example of our Women’s Month theme: Not linear. Not limited. Not done. She perfectly embodies the spirit of GURL PWR – Grow, Unite, Rise, Lead.
A Career Built on Care
Kim joined Sodexo with years of experience in hospitality management. She wanted to bring her love for looking after people into the mining industry.
“I could see that my love of hospitality and people would be valuable here,” Kim says. “I hoped to enhance the level of service and care provided.”
Now, as an Assistant Village Manager, she puts people first. She is dedicated to caring for the mental and physical wellbeing of residents who are away from home.
Bringing Her Whole Self to Work
Kim chose Sodexo because she saw a company that truly valued inclusivity. “The Pride Network stood out to me straight away as a movement I wanted to be a part of and support,” she recalls.
As a proud gay woman, Kim leads by example. She runs marathons, promotes fitness, and shows what it looks like to be yourself at work. By doing so, she helps create a safe space for others. She wants to encourage younger women to be proud of who they are and see a future for themselves in mining.
Overcoming Challenges
Like many of us, Kim faced challenges when starting out. She had to fit into a younger environment and keep up with new technology. She also knows that it can still be hard for women to be heard in a male-dominated industry. But she sees positive change happening every day at Sodexo.
Advice for the Future
For other women thinking about a career in this industry, Kim’s advice is clear: “Be confident in your worth and always ask questions, even if they make you feel vulnerable.”
Kim’s journey shows that leadership is about the positive impact you have on those around you. She proves that when you are not limited by expectations, you can build a career that is truly your own. And she is certainly not done yet.
