GURL PWR in Action: Meet Monique Beck and discover her trailblazing journey at Sodexo

This March, we’re celebrating GURL PWR – Grow. Unite. Rise. Lead. across Sodexo Australia. Throughout the month, we’re spotlighting the women who embody this spirit — those who follow non-linear paths, act with courage, break barriers, and inspire those around them.

We call them our Trailblazers.

Meet Monique, a key member of our bar and retail team at West Pilbara Village. Her journey reminds us that a meaningful career is built on connection, resilience, and the willingness to grow.

Not Linear: Finding a Place to Call Home

Monique’s path to Sodexo wasn’t a straight line. Before joining us, she worked in over 20 different roles around the world—from landscaping and bartending to nannying and working as a chef.

She joined Sodexo as a casual floating staff member, looking for a change after a difficult time personally. It was meant to be a way to work and travel, but everything changed when she arrived at West Pilbara Village.

“I immediately felt that I had found somewhere I could truly call home,” Monique says. “Sodexo became not just a job, but the foundation of a long-term career.”

Not Limited: The Power of Human Connection

In the tavern, Monique does more than just serve customers. She creates a welcoming environment where our residents feel valued and supported.

“To be able to make someone smile and uplift their day even a small amount is my main aim in life,” she says. “This job gives me that opportunity every single day.”

Monique takes pride in the small details that make a big difference, like remembering regulars’ orders and asking about their day. She knows that working away from home can be tough, and she is dedicated to making every interaction positive.

Not Done: Words of Wisdom

Monique believes that being a Trailblazer means never stopping in the pursuit of what makes you happy. She credits much of her growth to the support of mentors within the business, like Shulamith Russell.

Here is her advice for anyone looking to grow their career at Sodexo:

Chase happiness, not just the corporate ladder. Choose what you love and pursue it with passion. Be fully yourself. You can’t truly shine or grow without embracing who you are. Reach out to others. The women in your workplace can be incredible sources of support and guidance.
