This month sees an important milestone in Sodexo’s Aboriginal School Based Traineeship program, Karratha WA.

In October 2015, Sodexo Karratha Operations reached out to the local Karratha Senior High School and St. Luke’s College’s, in offering Nationally accredited vocational traineeships for local Aboriginal school students.

Opportunities were assessed on site at Woodside Energy’s Karratha Gap Ridge Village and FM Services, in the areas of Hospitality, Warehousing/Inventory control and Business Administration.   In partnership with MEGT – Sodexo’s preferred Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Provider (AASN), and both Karratha Education campuses, Sodexo Operations were able to connect with year 10 students and gather expressions of interest.  With support from the schools and student’s families, short listed candidates were mentored through the interview process and invited to an orientation visit in the workplace.

Students attend the workplace one day per week within their normal school schedule, gathering skills and working experience – whilst earning a wage.  All are closely supported by their department supervisors and Sodexo’s Indigenous Community Liaison Manager (On Site Services Woodside) Helen Slater, to ensure their experience on site is professionally rewarding and comfortable – and of course on track with their Certificate II progression, assessed by their training organisation Career’s Australia.   MEGT’s on-going support and guidance ensures training continuity and contractual support – as demonstrated with Sodexo’s 200+ Trainees and Apprentices across the country.

School Based Trainees

  •          Hayley Ladyman – Certification II Business
  •          Jay Vaughn-Williams – Certification II Business
  •          Haylen Wielgomasz – Certificate II Warehouse Operations
  •          Dylan Hansen – Certificate II Warehouse Operations

Please join us in congratulating our trainees, on their 3 month anniversary into the program.  We are immensely proud to welcome these students into the Sodexo family, and looking forward to continuing the journey through their professional development and beyond.
