Sodexo celebrates first Health & Wellness Indigenous Traineeship

18 year old Corbann Macale, a recent Tom Price High school graduate has become Sodexo Australia’s first Health & Wellness Trainee.

Corbann commenced his traineeship with the Health & Wellness team earlier this month, supported by Chris Smith (Tom Price Wellness Advisor) and mentored by Carnedd Williams (Health & Wellness Manager). Michael Little, IFMS Indigenous Community Advisor, will also be supporting and mentoring Corbann throughout his Traineeship.

Corbann has a real drive for community engagement and helping others.  Last year he was nominated by the TPYSA for voluntary participation and performance at the Tom Price Youth Centre for Shire of Ashburton – Tom Price Young Community Citizen of the Year 2017.

His work with the Tom Price Youth Centre was a key identifier which made him an ideal candidate aligned to Sodexo’s core values and mission to improve quality of life:

“I have participated at the youth centre for 2 years and am a member of the Youth Advisory Council and the Tom Price Local Drug Action Group, which works to reduce alcohol and drug related harm in the community.  Through my involvement, I have developed a good understanding of activities and events and the planning that goes into staging them.  I have played a key role in a number of sporting events especially for basketball events held in 2015 and 2016.  This required me to mentor and coach other youth, design the fixtures for the competitions, referee, and liaise with staff.  I have really enjoyed playing this leadership role and feel that I have learnt a lot about engaging and motivating others.”

Corbann’s personal interest in sports has shone through in his work with the Tom Price Mens & Junior Basketball Association. Corbann has provided support to the sporting club throughout sport season including coaching, mentoring, refereeing and collaborating with other volunteers to create a successful season for the young people. Notably, he also secured local sponsorship for the purchase of the team singlets.

“We are excited to embark on this journey with Corbann as he starts his journey into the working world. He has the opportunity to continue personal and professional education while working towards his Certificate IV in Fitness & Health. His passion and drive truly demonstrates Sodexo’s spirit of progress and we are happy to have him as part of the team.

As a business, we are proud to provide opportunities in local towns such as Tom Price. We are confident Corbann will lead the charge as a great role model for young people in the Pilbara and beyond.  ~ Carnedd Williams – Health & Wellness Manager, Sodexo
