HAVE A SAFE DAY – 3 Checks for Safety
Are you safety savvy? Our global safety campaign Have a Safe Day asks people to think about their attitudes and behaviours when it comes to this vital aspect of our daily work.
Safety has always been a huge focus for the business, but despite our efforts, accidents are still happening. We need to focus on reducing those numbers and making Sodexo a safer place to work – to ensure that everyone goes home safely at the end of the day with a sense of well-being.
Sodexo is committed to achieving a zero accident mindset.
Have a Safe Day has two main aims:
- To raise awareness about health and safety and how critical it is to our jobs and welfare.
- Initiating new attitudes and behaviours across Sodexo.
Health and safety should be the first thing we all think about before we do a job. Through Have a Safe Day we’re encouraging you to learn from your mistakes and speak up if you feel you can’t do your job safely.
Have a Safe day is about raising awareness, but more importantly, it’s about changing behaviours, initiating new habits and empowering you to speak out if you feel the job can not be done safely.
So, before you start a job, it’s important to ask yourself these three simple questions:
- Do I know how to do the job?
Take the time to make sure you fully understand everything you need to be safe. Doing the job right ensures your safety and the safety of those around you.
- Do I have the right equipment?
There is specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and tools for each job. Be sure that you have all the tools and equipment you need to work efficiently and safely: for example, a hard hat, protective goggles or a pair of gloves when handling hot dishes.
- Is my environment safe?
Look around you – safety risks can be everywhere. A chair left in the hallway after a meeting; a loose electric cable left unchecked. Accidents can stem from the smallest things, check that your surroundings are safe before carrying out the job.
