National Reconciliation Week at Roxby Downs

National Reconciliation Week at Roxby Downs

A free community event was put on by Roxby council in conjunction with sponsors Sodexo, BHP Billiton and Oympic Dam community trust to celebrate National Reconciliation Week. As a Sodexo member of the Roxby Organising Committee, Peter Burgoyne opened the event with a welcome to country and acknowledgement of the Kokatha traditional owners and Elders past and present. He gave a talk about the importance of Reconciliation, and the aims of Reconciliation Australia.

Some description

The celebration brought people from all walks of life together with many activities such as a weaving workshop, arts and crafts, and childrens games for people to engage with and learn more about Indigenous culture. A local Aboriginal musician entertained the group with her singing and guitar playing, and the group enjoyed a bush tucker BBQ of Kangaroo and Emu sausages.  Overall, it was a great opportunity for people to connect and celebrate Indigenous culture.
