NAIDOC Week 2016 GOVE and the Yirrkala Community
On Wednesday 5th July, the Gove Sodexo team, together with the Yirrkala Community, proudly celebrated Indigenous culture during Naidoc Week. Team members participated in cooking, engaging with the locals and listening to elders with stories or ‘Songlines’ from the land. This was a great day of traditional dancing, music and face painting for the kids. Sodexo supported the event by providing meat and salads for the BBQ and it was much appreciated by Miwatj Health and the Local Communities of Gove.
After the success of the event at Yirrkala, Sodexo was asked to be involved in another Naidoc celebration on Friday in Gove. Sodexo offered our services for the BBQ to be held at Miwatj health centre for NAIDOC week also on the Friday in Gove – we supplied the burger patties, burger buns, onions and salads along with one of our chefs Marc Tamwoy, to cook for everyone.
Marc Tamwoy, our Indigenous apprentice chef, has now completed his 4 years of training and is a fully qualified chef. Marc achieved his goal on the 20th of May.
– Best Wishes from Scott Morrison, Shayne Pitout, Karen Bagley & the Gove House Team.
Sodexo is proud to support our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and groups this Naidoc Week!
