Diversity team on tour
10 May 2017
At Sodexo, we recognise the importance of diversity and we have a commitment to respect the rights and interests of the communities we serve.
Members of the Diversity team, Wendy Dawson GM Indigenous and Community Engagement, Nicola Larg, Indigenous Employment and Programs Specialist, Nola Kelly Indigenous Mentor and Community Liaison and Mark Thomson RAP Program Manager have spent the past two weeks engaging with managers and teams at our Tom Price and Karratha sites.
The purpose of the engagement tour was to put the Indigenous employment and engagement agenda at the forefront and to engage staff in an on-going commitment to cultural competence. Information sessions and workshops were made up of small groups of site Operations Managers, Supervisors and frontline staff.
Wendy and Nicola covered topics centred on local Indigenous engagement, recruitment and proposed training programs offering a unique entrance into the workplace. Sodexo’s Vocational Training Employment Centre (VTEC) program was the main program being introduced locally. Supervisors and staff learned how they could become involved as Sodexo VTEC champions to mentor and work alongside the VTEC trainees to impart their knowledge and expertise.
Thank you to the dedicated Diversity team for their on-going work to instil a reconciliation plan that is recognised and lived out company wide, building cultural awareness through training, fostering diversity in our workforce and in our hiring practices. We encourage everyone to share in recognising important dates on the Indigenous calendar with Sorry Day, National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC week coming up.
