Worlds Greatest Shave Event Highlights
21 March 2019
Sodexo has once again kicked off its fundraising campaign in support of Leukemia Foundation’s annual World’s Great Shave. Last year, we were recognised as the 2nd highest fundraiser at the Greatest Shave WA Awards.
In Weipa, the Health & Lifestyle team hosted The World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser at the Weipa Golf Club with fantastic community support and engagement. Over 150 people came out to donate their time and money (and hair!) to the event. Five residents braved the shave in front of the cheering crowd, raising $5800 (and counting!). Kids got in on the fun at the hair colouring station, while parents enjoyed the live music, entertainment, BBQ and drinks to keep donations kept rolling in. Additional donations were raised during a bake sale – with blue and orange handmade cupcakes – and a big raffle with prizes and giveaways worth over $1000.
Amrun Village hosted a shave-off and hair colouring station and cupcakes by gold coin donation in the Village Dining Room during dinner service. They raffled off an espresso coffee machine and 1kg of ground coffee. A total of 40 participants were involved, raising over $300.00, with ongoing donations in Village Reception until the end of the month.
Wickham held their 2019 World’s Greatest Shave event on 15th March. The fundraising campaign has been successful so far with an impressive $1000 raised within the first week! Five Sodexo employees signed up to support the cause with four of the Building Maintenance members shaving their heads, and the other participants opting for a complete colour change.
A “Wax auction” was introduced this year, with $10 per waxing strip on the hairiest chest. This provided great entertainment for family, friends and work colleagues who all showed up to support the cause and take part in the festivities. The event was successfully wrapped up with nearly $200 cash on the night adding to the total team contribution over $1500.
Prominent Hill’s World’s Greatest Shave was a huge success, far exceeding their initial goal of $500… and raising almost $5000! With the help of a lively trivia night, there was great crowd participation, wild hair colouring, and a head and beard shave from the work crow. The highlight of the night belonged to Lisa Ling who donated her lovely locks for the cause. “There was no hesitation when it came to the donations for Lisa. She’s been with Sodexo at Prominent Hill for seven years and is loved by one and all at Prominent Hill. She’s known as the site ‘mum’ by many of the staff and all companies on site”, says Health & Lifestyle Coordinator, Luke Hyams.
Our Sodexo Health & Lifestyles teams are able to make this contribution thanks to the generosity and support of residents, customers and people at sites and villages around Australia. The Mining and Energy Challenge helps raise much needed funds with the support of the Australian mining and energy sector, associated companies and contractors.
We thank you for your generosity!
