Senior residents treated to Australia Day celebrations
Quality of Life in senior care means creating a welcoming home, a place where people are active and engaged, eager to share in conversation and activities. It’s also a place with a sense of community that’s inviting to friends and family.
The Sodexo Healthcare team recently celebrated Australia Day in style with our clients, residents, and guests. While theme days and events happen regularly, the extra special effort put in by the team this year was outstanding.
At Yallambee Village in Victoria, Leonie Whelan had her team dressed up for the occasion and made a special trifle and Australian flag coloured Neapolitan ice cream.
At Storm Village in NSW, the team surely took out the prize for dressing in their Australia Day outfits to share in the spirit with the residents.
At Bishop in NSW, Chef Lyn Hull and her team got creative with damper bread and a massive Australia Day Lamington Trifle along with some eclectic headwear.
Chef Manager Theresa Lau and her team at Uniting Thomas Bowden, NSW delighted residents and guests with some Aussie classics: fish and chips, Lamingtons with ice-cream and meat pies.
At Bethany Christian Care, Anita Robinson Head Chef at The Plains coordinated the other two sites and with the assistance of Ngaire Still and Mourell Dunston prepared elaborate BBQ events complete with music and entertainment. The BBQ’s were held out in the open courtyard allowing the residents to experience the sights and smells of the sizzling grill while enjoying a day in the gardens. “”The residents especially loved the fruit punch” on this warm day.
The enthusiasm and creative initiative shown by our Healthcare teams positively contribute to the quality of life for residents, enhancing social interaction, physical and mental wellbeing. More than just the enjoyment of food that was served, the interaction with the residents, care staff, and lifestyle assistants made for another successful Sodexo event.
“Thank you Ngaire (Chef) for the great BBQ lunch that you prepared and cooked. We are so lucky at Janoah Gardens to have Ngaire, not only a great Chef but a friendly lady always willing to help and cheer our residents up.”
“The BBQ Lunch today in JG was a huge success coming from the residents and some family members. They have extended their appreciation to you and all the staff for this event. They loved that all (almost) residents were in one room having a wonderful bbq with everybody including the staff.
“The number of compliments that are coming through and the smiles on (the residents’) faces is priceless.”
