Meet the Chef
Chef Steven Laybourne is currently the Catering Manager at one of Australia’s largest mining camps. He leads a team that serves 2,000 guests daily. He focuses on simple, elegant dishes and says he became a chef because he loves food! Steve says the best part of his day is working closely with his team to create menus and meals that guests can really enjoy.
Chef Laybourne began his 20+ year culinary career in a variety of cafés, bistros and large-capacity restaurants and hotels around Perth, WA. After completing a four-year culinary apprenticeship, he served as sous chef and head chef in lively bars and bistros and then found his calling as a chef at remote mining sites. For the past 10 years, he’s worked in and managed kitchens at several mining villages in Western Australia.
Chef Laybourne joined Sodexo in 2011, and has had opportunities to move up and around within the business, excelling in all roles he has taken on. He is a long standing, high performer of the Sodexo team, and has sustained his commitment to improving the quality of life for both his team and customers, through dedication, dynamic leadership skills and a positive safety culture.
