12 Week Challenge gets Pannawonica fit

November 2017

Pannawonica residents have completed a 12 Week Challenge to lose weight, get fit and improve their quality of life – and scored prizes for doing it!

Sodexo Wellness Advisors Bethany Campbell and Chris Rivett developed the 12 Week Challenge to encourage consumers to implement – and stick to – a healthier lifestyle. But while losing weight, eating better and getting stronger is undeniably its own reward, many local business generously donated some great prizes.

42 eager contestants signed up for the Challenge. To maintain engagement throughout the whole 12 weeks, Beth and Chris split the Challenge into three four-week blocks, each with a different theme: diets and bad habits; aerobic endurance; and strength.

Making good health even more fun, bonus points were regularly up for grabs—whether earned by attending Nutrition and Mental Health Workshops or playing in the R U OK? Quiz Night, to running in the annual City to Surf. Participants also received motivational emails with training tips to keep them inspired til the very end (and beyond).

Some description

The amazing results speak for themselves! Overall the group shed 63.1kgs from their combined weight, four metres from their body measurements and a cumulative 51.4 percent body fat.

There were also some stand-out successes within the group:

  • Four participants each lost more than 6kg
  • Five are now able to squat their whole body weight
  • Three can bench press their body weight
  • Three ran 10km for the first time
  • And one man even reduced his blood pressure enough so that it doesn’t medication anymore!

Winners of the overall 12 Week Challenge were announced and awarded at Pannawonica’s Welcome to Town event on 4th November, with plenty of bonus prizes for the most-improved in individual categories such as endurance, strength and weight loss.
